4 weeks before

• Fix the moving date
• Get 2–3 survey-based quotes and book movers
• Decide what to sell, donate or discard
• Check RC and insurance if moving a vehicle
• Inform children's school and request transfer certificates

2–3 weeks before

• Give notice to landlord; ask for deposit refund date
• Book service lift and gate pass at both societies
• Start LPG connection transfer
• Arrange broadband, DTH and electricity disconnection or transfer
• Update address with bank, Aadhaar and insurers (or plan to after the move)

1 week before

• Pack rarely used items, if packing yourself
• Put jewellery, cash, documents and medicines in a carry bag
• Use up frozen food and pantry stock
• Confirm date, time and crew size with movers

The day before

• Defrost and dry the fridge
• Drain the washing machine
• Pack a first-night box: sheets, towels, toiletries, chargers, snacks
• Charge phones; keep movers' and society contacts handy

Moving day

• Walk through the home with the supervisor
• Check and sign the inventory; keep a copy
• Final check of cupboards, lofts, balcony and meter readings
• Hand over keys and take photos of the empty home

At the new home

• Check items against the inventory as they come in
• Set up beds and kitchen first
• Note any damage on the delivery receipt and report within 24 hours
• Update your address on official records in the first month
