Large appliances are heavy, expensive and easily damaged if not prepared. A few steps before and after the move make all the difference.
Refrigerator
- Empty, switch off and defrost it at least 12 hours before.
- Clean and dry the inside; tape doors and remove loose trays.
- Keep it upright during the move.
- At the new home, wait a few hours before switching it on so the compressor oil settles.
Washing machine
- Run an empty cycle and drain it fully a day before.
- Fit the transit bolts if you still have them, to lock the drum.
- Disconnect and pack the inlet and outlet pipes separately.
Air conditioner
Split ACs should be uninstalled by a technician who pumps down the gas into the outdoor unit. Window ACs need draining and careful upright packing. Re-installation also needs a technician; we can help arrange one.
TV, microwave and smaller appliances
Pack TVs upright in foam. Remove the glass plate from the microwave and pack it separately. Bag all remote controls and cables together and label them.
Water purifier and geyser
Disconnect from the water supply, drain, and pack filters separately. Wall-mounted geysers need a plumber to remove and re-fit.
All of this is part of our household shifting service.
