Two quotes with similar totals can include very different things. Reading them line by line is the only way to compare fairly.
The usual lines
- Packing charges: labour and material for packing. Ask what material is included.
- Loading and unloading: labour at both ends. Check whether floors without a lift are included.
- Transportation (freight): the vehicle, driver, fuel and tolls. Check whether it is a dedicated or shared truck, and the truck size.
- Unpacking and re-arranging: sometimes included, sometimes extra.
- Dismantling and assembly: beds and wardrobes; complex modular units may be extra.
- Car or bike transport: usually a separate line.
- Insurance: a percentage of declared value; optional.
- Storage: per day or month, if needed.
- Technician charges: AC and appliance installation.
- GST: should be shown separately.
Questions to ask
- Is this price fixed after the survey?
- What would make it change on moving day?
- Are tolls, parking and society charges included?
- How many workers and which vehicle?
- When and how is payment due?
