You cannot always choose your moving date. But when you can, a little planning makes the move cheaper, easier and safer for your goods.
Best months: October to March
Lucknow's winter months are the most comfortable for moving: dry, cool days and no rain. Packing material stays dry, and crews work faster. The main exception is late December and January, when early-morning fog can slow highways for intercity moves.
Hardest months: May and June
Afternoon temperatures in Lucknow regularly cross 40°C and can reach 45°C. Moves are still done every day, but they start very early. Read our tips for shifting in summer heat.
Monsoon: July to September
Rain is the biggest risk to cartons, mattresses and wooden furniture. If you must move in the monsoon, ask early for a closed container (they are supplied subject to availability and demand is very high) and extra waterproofing. See monsoon moving tips.
Busy seasons to book early
- Month-end and month-start: rental agreements end and begin, so the last and first five days of the month are the busiest.
- Navratri to Diwali: many families prefer to move into a new home around the festivals.
- Wedding season (roughly November to February): crews and trucks are in high demand.
- School holidays (May–June): families with children prefer to move between sessions.
Auspicious dates
Many families choose a date for griha pravesh with their family priest. Tell us the date when you book; you can do the puja first and have the goods arrive afterwards, or the other way round.
Best day and time
Mid-week, mid-month dates are the easiest to schedule. On the day, start early: by 8 am in summer, before city traffic and the heat build up. Some Lucknow roads restrict trucks at peak hours, so morning loading also avoids waiting.
